JOB TITLE:
BEHAVIORAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN
SUMMARY: Provides assistance
in meeting the daily living needs of patients within the therapeutic milieu. Directs patient
activities designed to improve biopsychosocial functioning.
DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team
attending to the responsibilities and needs of assigned patients.
2.
Implements identified fundamental nursing skills to
assigned patients under the direction of nursing staff.
3.
Participants in monitoring a safe and therapeutic
environment.
4.
Provides daily living skills training to identify
patients within the therapeutic milieu.
5.
Documents patient behaviors and deviations on
checklist and in narrative on the medical record.
6.
Demonstrates professional behavior and interactions
at all times with patients, family members, other professionals and staff.
7.
Participates in staff training programs designed to
improve professional knowledge and skills that will enhance clinical expertise and patient
care.
8.
Executes other duties as assigned by authorized
personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred
or a minimum of 4 years inpatient behavioral technician
experience at the core competency level noted below.
Minimum
Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in
behavioral healthcare setting.

COMPETENCIES IN PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES:
1. Sensitivity to a patient’s emotional, mental, physical needs.
2. Strong written and oral communication skills.
3. General understanding of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Techniques.
4. Knowledge of therapeutic communication techniques, psychological theory, and
interventions.
5. Awareness of psychiatric care delivery systems available in the community.
6. Able
to perform fundamental nursing skills such as but not limited to vital signs, intake and output,
feeding, bathing, toileting, personal hygiene, transfer and ambulatory assistance.
