Our Current Expansion Projects

Millcreek Community Hospital Commits to $10 Million
Expansion Project
After months of strategic planning, Millcreek Community
Hospital unveiled plans to increase its capacity to better serve the growing health care needs of
Erie and surrounding communities for:
- Services for older adults
- Behavioral health care for adults and adolescents.
Construction began in October
2006 on a $10-million expansion to the hospital and its long term care facilities, which will
increase the total beds in the system from 135 to 200. The combined projects will add 39,350
square feet, or 26% to our services.
Multiple New
Facilities are underway
New facilities will include:
- A
three-story addition to the southeast side of the hospital to include a 14-bed transitional care
unit to serve patients who no longer need acute care, but are not well enough to return home.
Patients often require this type of care following orthopedic procedures such as joint
replacements, which are performed at Millcreek Community Hospital.
- An expanded ER to
better handle acute medical and psychiatric emergencies.
- A fifth-floor
addition to the main hospital tower for a 12-bed geriatric behavioral health care unit and an
18-bed child/adolescent psychiatric unit - currently, the only child/adolescent unit in
Northwestern PA. The hospital s fourth floor will serve as a 32-bed general psychiatric unit.
Millcreek Community Hospital will continue to offer a full array of medical and diagnostic
inpatient and outpatient services. It will further enhance and focus those services to make them
even more accessible to seniors.
As the hospital itself turns 60 in 2008, we plan to be the
premier facility for senior care, and also for inpatient behavioral health care. In both areas,
there s been dramatic medical progress in improving the quality of life. We re very excited and
proud to be at the forefront in providing these services.
